Lorries with their engines running
It is Tuesday and this morning was the second morning I got a bunch of bemused looks. I think many people working on the Pergola site are not aware that we have started living there. The man takes out the dogs just before 6AM, I leave the house a little after 6AM and make my way to the S-Bahn station ‘Rübenkamp’. Upon leaving the inner courtyard of our building, massive lorries and smaller vans are parked with their engines running, probably to keep the driver warm whilst they wait for the building works to start for the day. I had the feeling that one of them was about to shout at me for walking across a building site, judging by the thunderous look on his face upon spotting me. He ended up not saying anything though, probably because I looked so much out of place with my clean white trainers, purposefully walking along in my completely non-building-site-outfit. So much out of place, that there must be a reason for me being there.
Tomorrow I am staying at home because it is my turn to ease the daughter in her new local childcare. The man said he feels equally out of place pushing her along in her pram during the day. Let’s see how I find that. The daughter certainly likes the hustle and bustle of the building works. We marvel at how quickly she has accepted her new busy world, where many men walk around with tools, lorries go past and, at all times, there is a drill going somewhere. Inside the flat it is mostly quiet, just faint drilling can be heard. Barking and Forgetful stopped barking at these drilling sounds already, they gave up mid-morning today.
