My family and I started living in the Pergola District in November 2019. The ‘Pergolenviertel’ is located in Hamburg, Germany and about 1400 residential flats will be part to the district. This photo blog is about the experience of being one of the first residents in a new community built from scratch.

Pergolas all around

Pergolas all around

The Pergola District gets its name from the pergolas, to be placed throughout the whole of the development site. It is a nice idea and, even without any plants using these pergolas as climbing frames at the moment, the public walkways in the making do look and feel friendlier for them. Currently, there are a number of stacks of the pergolas still on the ground dotted around the area.

With planting, they will provide much needed shade when walking through the development. I for my part certainly look forward to walking beneath the pergolas to our local public transport station – and hope for a green canopy to develop soon.
