My family and I started living in the Pergola District in November 2019. The ‘Pergolenviertel’ is located in Hamburg, Germany and about 1400 residential flats will be part to the district. This photo blog is about the experience of being one of the first residents in a new community built from scratch.

Flooded again

Flooded again

The bleak Sunday managed to get a little bleaker in the evening. I went into the cellar at 4pm and discovered  that the pipes running along the ceiling were dripping. At the same time, the water in our toilet bowl started to rise. Oh dear. Turns out that the ‘blockage’ in the sewage pipe system causing the flood on Monday was still there. Somewhere. We are getting the strong feeling that neither the building company nor the main sewage grid people at the City of Hamburg have got a proper idea on what causes these ‘blockages’. For us, it means that we were unable to shower or flush the toilet in our flat. Oh dear again. By lunchtime on Monday the second ‘blockage’ (building and site management people keep using this word..) has been ‘flushed out’ and we were able to use our loos and shower again. The reasons for the floods on Monday or Sunday are still to be explained and the complete lack of communication from the side of our building developer is starting to make the man and I anxious. Usually no written communication means, either, that something is seriously wrong - or just unknown. Both are not great when it comes to the disposal of sewage water.
