My family and I started living in the Pergola District in November 2019. The ‘Pergolenviertel’ is located in Hamburg, Germany and about 1400 residential flats will be part to the district. This photo blog is about the experience of being one of the first residents in a new community built from scratch.

Two Trees

Two Trees

For the last few weeks, ‘civilians’ have started to outnumber the builders. There are still plenty of cranes and diggers though, to the delight of The Daughter. We have been living here now for a little over a year and tribes of people start to emerge, mostly residents stick to the people that live in their buildings. Massively high COVID-19 infection and death rates mean that mingling is not a good idea anyway.

Constant since our move have been two trees: Big Tree and Gnarly Apple Tree. Big Tree is located right at North of the building site, Gnarly Apple Tree on the Way to the S-Bahn. Both seem to have survived the changes around them well. All was well until late November, when Gnarly Apple Tree got a nick in its trunk during landscaping works. Spring will tell whether it will continue to thrive and be a lovely fixture in the Pergolenviertel.
