My family and I started living in the Pergola District in November 2019. The ‘Pergolenviertel’ is located in Hamburg, Germany and about 1400 residential flats will be part to the district. This photo blog is about the experience of being one of the first residents in a new community built from scratch.

July 2020 Perspectives

It has been a strange couple of months for us and we are getting used to, well, an actual community of residents around us. COVID-19 means that people with small children tend to congregate in the inner courtyard and we are no exception to this.  It is change all around and we are also trying to find our feet with the different little ‘clans’ of people that are starting to emerge. It is the first time that we live in a place where we know people by sight when we leave our front door and it is very strange for us. Not necessarily bad, just an odd experience and, for me, it is eerily reminiscent of growing up in a small village where you know the majority of faces. On the building site, scaffolding is coming down and some buildings are getting close to the finish line. Two are still in the early stages and yet without scaffolding - but with new cranes.
